Robin Olds flew two combat tours in Europe with the 8th Air Force’s 479th Fighter Group in P-38s and P-51s, scoring 13 confirmed aerial victories plus one 'damaged' Me 262.
All of Olds' victories, including at least four kills in Vietnam flying F-4 Phantoms as commander of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, were enemy fighters. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 as a brigadier general. Olds’ memoirs, published after his 2007 passing by his daughter Christina Olds, “Fighter Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds,” is a fascinating read detailing his long and storied career.
