479th Fighter Group pilot Maj. Robin Olds in one of his P-51 Mustangs, SCAT VI. Olds flew two tours in Europe with the 479th, in P-38s and P-51s, scoring 13 confirmed aerial victories plus one 'damaged' Me 262. All of Olds' victories, including at least four kills in Vietnam flying F-4 Phantoms as commander of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, were enemy fighters. His memoirs, published after his passing by his daughter Christina Olds, Fighter Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds, is a fascinating read detailing his long and storied career.
