December 1944, airfield A-98 (Rosieres-en-Haye, France). 353rd Fighter Squadron commander Maj. Glenn T. Eagleston taxies his P-47 Thunderbolt back to parking after a mission. Per usual practice, a crewman rides the wing to help the pilot with the P-47's very poor forward visibility on the ground.

Eagleston was the 353rd's commanding officer from October 1944 through war's end. His tally of 18.5 aerial victories made him the 9th Air Force's top wartime ace. He added two more victories in Korea, flying 84 missions in F-86 Sabres with the 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing. "Eagle" passed away in 1991.
